Face-to-face therapy sessions are to commence from 2nd June 2020, whilst strictly

                                                    following the HSE health guidelines

COVID-19 Return to Face-to-Face Sessions Operating Procedures


Pre-screening before Appointments

  • You will be sent as usual a ‘confirmation text’ the day before your appointment.

  • Please ensure you bring your mobile phone to appointments, and show the ‘confirmation text’ as proof of attending an essential service appointment, if requested by the Gardaí when travelling to the session.

  • The text will not disclose that the session is for counselling/psychotherapy to protect your confidentiality.

  • The ‘confirmation text’ will ask you to confirm COVID-19 related health question.  If you have any of the symptoms listed by the HSE https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/protect-yourself-and-others.html, if you have been in direct contact with someone who has been confirmed with a diagnosis of COVID-19, or if you are required to self-isolate, please inform your therapist.  The appointment can be re-scheduled or the session can take place online via Skype.


Entry/Exit into the Practice building

  • The practice is located within a business park, with the ability for you to park as close to the building door as possible,                                                with minimal, if not zero contact with other persons.

  • Please do not arrive early for appointments (there is no waiting room), please wait in your car if you arrive earlier for                                                                        your appointment time.

  • Please remain in your car, until the therapist calls you on the phone, to confirm that it is safe to enter the building.

  • Please ring the doorbell, and you will be buzzed into the building.

  • There is a small staircase to walk-up to gain entry to the practice office.  Remain at the bottom of the stairs if someone                                                                        is walking down the stairs (you will see if the stairs are clear through the glass doors, before entering the building).

  • The office door will be open for you to walk straight in, and take a seat on the couch.

  • The therapist will close the door after you are seated, and maintain a minimum of 2 meters distance from you at all times.

  • You will be asked to sanitize your hands when you arrive.

  • At the end of the session, you will be asked to sanitize your hands, and the therapist will unlock and open the door for                                                  you to exit, to maintain a minimum of 2 meters, please remain seated on the couch.

  • When leaving the session, will check that the staircase is clear, and will walk down the staircase and open the main door, to let you out of the building.  

The Session

  • As per the government guidelines, social distancing of a minimum of 2 meters will be maintained between the client and                                                          therapist at all times.

  • The distance between the therapist and client seated, is 3.4 meters. 

  • Water will not be offered to the client, please feel free to bring your own if you wish.

  • Tissues will not be provided, please bring your own tissues if you require, and dispose of them in the bin provided.

  • All consultation forms and therapy assessment forms will be completed electronically at the first session.

  • Any therapy worksheets for the client, and payment of fee will be left on the coffee table in between the client and                                                                      therapist, whilst maintaining a minimum distance of 2 meters.

  • If you prefer not to handle cash, you may pay for the session via bank transfer.

  • Any change required, the therapist will leave this on the coffee table for you, please sanitize your hands afterwards.

  • As per the HSE’s guidelines, hand-shaking before or after sessions will not be offered by the therapist.

Health, Hygiene and Sanitizing Protocol

  • All surfaces, door handles will be sanitized before and after every client’s session within the practice.

  • The doorbell and door handle on the main door entry to the building will be sanitized before each client session, but this                                              does does not guarantee that another person has entered the building and touched these surfaces.

  • You will be required to sanitize your hands when you arrive, and after the session.

  • Sanitizer will be provided.

  • Any tissues used by the client will be disposed of safely by the therapist after each session.

  • The client may wear a mask during the session if they prefer.

  • There are toilets provided within the practice building, to minimize risk, it is advisable for clients to try and ensure that they do not require the bathroom before sessions, if at all possible.

Online therapy sessions for Vulnerable Clients/Clients who are unwell or self-isolating

  • If you are self-isolating, one of the vulnerable groups (i.e. over 60 or have an underlying condition), feel unwell, or have any of the symptoms listed by the HSE https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/protect-yourself-and-others.html therapy sessions will be offered online through Skype or phone-call.

  • Skype is a free, secure online video conferencing app that can be downloaded onto a pc, laptop, tablet, iPad or mobile phone.

  • Payment for the session can be made by bank transfer before or during the online session.
